Chances are you’ve seen the “5 Things” meme being passed around via email and on various blogs lately. So, here’s five things you might not know about me:
- I have Diabetes Mellitus (Type 1 Diabetes). For nearly 16 years I‘ve been sticking needles in my body and injecting insulin. Even though I’ve been diabetic since I was a teenager, I’m really just beginning to understand it and find ways to care for it properly. I’m also beginning to feel some of the long-term effects of the poor habits from my youth…
- I’ve never left the West Coast. The extent of my travels has been a trip to Disneyland when I was twelve, a weekend in Portland in 1998, a number of trips to Seattle & other areas of Washington State, and several trips to Alberta. Considering that I take a fairly keen interest in world affairs, I certainly haven’t seen much of it in person. But that’s going to change later this year when Jen and I travel to Italy for our honeymoon.

- I once had a blue mohawk, and here’s the proof. Not one of these faux-hawks that are so popular right now (and drive me freakin’ nuts), but the real deal. Yea, I thought I was pretty hardcore for a while there. “Thought” being the key word… ;p
- I passed my Grade 10 Social Studies class by marking A, C, D, C throughout the entire multiple choice final exam (as in the band AC/DC for those not schooled in The Rock). I didn’t read a single question, yet still managed to pass with a C+. I’m not sure why I did it. Social Studies was actually one of the classes I enjoyed in highschool, and I even studied for the exam. But I was a pretty cocky fifteen year old. The teacher stopped me in the hallway shortly after the exam and made it clear he was not impressed.Which leads to….
- I did not graduate from highschool. By age 19 I still didn’t have nearly enough credits to graduate, so I gave up and moved to Vancouver to work as a bicycle courier. After a few years I found out I could go to college as a mature student and qualify for a student loan, so I enrolled at Langara College and graduated with a diploma in Peace & Conflict Studies. After that, I went on to the Library Technician program – and here I am! I would never encourage anyone to drop out of highschool, but in many ways that path has worked out well for me.
Now here’s the part where I tag some friends & family: Jennifer; Emma; Courtney; Christine; John; Kim; Mary

The only one I didn’t know about you was numbre 4. Very interesting!
Are you saying it is my turn now?
Hmmm, I am pretty much an open book am I not? Let’s see…5 things… Well, i would say you know pretty much everything I could say, but I will do my best.
1. I lost my first baby when we had been married a bit under a year.
2. Our first son ALMOST got named “Bubba”. Kim really likes the name. I don’t. But for some strange reason he has never nicknamed Regan that. I don’t know why. He probably just doesn’t seem like a Bubba.
3. I lived in Ireland for 9 months. Yes, that’s it. I generally say it was a year, just so I don’t get ribbeed about “going there to have a baby”, which of course I did not do, but Kim likes to kid me. All these things seem to be about children so far, don’t they?
4. I would love to live in Newfoundland and Labrador. I envy the accent, for one. I really do.
5. I sucked at sports in school, but I now love to run and lift weights and do other exercise things. But I still DO NOT LIKE VOLLEYBALL. It hurts.

I actually hadn’t seen this meme before, but i like it.
Here are 5 things you probably don’t know about me:
1. I have never had a nose bleed.
2. despite now thinking he’s a bit of a wanker, i used to think bono was incredibly sexy. if any of you have ever seen rattle n’ hum, you might be able to kinda sorta understand this. u2 was also my favorite band for most of high school. but even then i prefered old u2 a la joshua tree.
3. I once worked on a plumbing crew fixing broken sprinkler heads/irrigation lines.
4. I have never seen the Star Wars, Terminator, Godfather, or Indiana Jones series’.
5. I was both a girl guide (including brownies and pathfinders) and a ballet, tap, and jazz dancer for over five years each as a kid.
